The URL participates in Milan in an international scientific colloquium on Artifical Inteligence

Friday, July 21, 2023. Last week, on July 13-14, the SACRU Scientific Colloquium “The Future of Catholic Universities in the Artifical Inteligence (AI) Age” and the Governing Board meeting were held in Milan at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore.

The rector of the URL, Josep Antoni Rom, intervened in the meeting, accompanied by the secretary general of the URL, Anna Berga, the Vice Rector for International Relations, Carlo Gallucci, and the professor of La Salle-URL, Xavier Vilasís, who made a presentation in which he emphasized that the key to AI in education "is not what the machine contributes but what people accept as good or not".

The meeting brought together more than 80 professors and researchers from the eight SACRU universities in Milan to discuss AI from a multidisciplinary point of view and how universities will react to a context change characterizing the educational globally. The Colloquium was opened by the keynote lecture of Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça, Prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education. The outcome of these two days of discussion will be a position paper to be published by the end of the year, which will formalize the Universities’ positions and proposals (more information about the lecture).

Taking advantage of the meeting, the Governing Board of the Strategic Alliance of Catholic Research Universities (SACRU) met on Friday, July 14, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milan, under the chairmanship of SACRU President and Australian Catholic University Vice-Chancellor and President Prof. Zlatko Skrbis.

In addition, Prof. Pier Sandro Cocconcelli, Vice Rector of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, was confirmed as the Secretary-General of SACRU for the term 2023-2026.
