Knowledge and technology transfer
The URL Research and Innovation Office (ORI) supports the University's research groups by enabling their research and increasing knowledge transfer and technological innovation
The ORI acts in coordination with the various specialised units of the URL schools and faculties in accordance with the federated structure of the university.
The main objectives of the ORI are to offer strategic and specialised advice for conducting research, development and technologically innovative projects, to increase and internationalise R&D&I projects through collaboration of the URL's research groups and companies, and to exploit the results obtained. It also fosters the setting up of technology-based companies through the University's technology parks.
Furthermore, the ORI participates actively in various sectoral networks that work, inter alia, to promote the transfer of knowledge and technologies from universities to society as a whole (the URL is a member of the RedOTRI network). The ORI is also in close contact with the business sector through organisations such as ACCIÓ and its clusters.
ORI RESEARCH AND TRANSFER FORUM
The Research and Innovation Office has launched the Research and Transfer Forum during the course 2020-2021; a proposal whose objective is to open spaces for information and dialogue about themes related to knowledge transfer and research.
The setting up of the Forum was related to the FORTUT project, and in its first year emphasised, among others, collaborative research in the field of social science.

NEW PROJECT FUNDED AT THE URL's ORI
The URL's ORI has been co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund for the implementation of projects of the knowledge transfer enhancement units of the universities of Catalonia, which aim to significantly improve the interaction with the productive sector, as part of the call published by Decision EMC/2970/2016 of 27 December 2016 for the project entitled “Strengthening the transfer units of the URL 2017-2020” (operation code IU16-005442).
This project is submitted according to the federated structure of the URL. While the main objective of the distributed units of the project (based in IQS and La Salle) is to enhance and foster the transfer of technologies arising in their schools and faculties, the function of the central unit (based in the Rectorate) is coordination and support, particularly to the federated URL institutions lacking their own transfer structure or distributed unit.
Therefore, the Rectorate OTRI's principal objective is to identify which knowledge and technologies can potentially be protected and transferred, including in the field of social sciences, where the URL has a significant critical mass of researchers and research projects. Actions are planned to improve the management of the URL's industrial property, identify and disseminate the capacities of its research groups, promote collaborative research and professionalise the human resources of the unit.
