Switzerland's University of Saint Gallen is attracted by the URL's model of governance
Thursday, 12 March 2015. Ramon Llull University (URL) received a delegation of 19 people from the University of St. Gallen, headed by Education Minister Stefan Kölliker and the rector of the university, Thomas Bieger, who visited our University to find out about its model of governance, which is unique in Spain, as well as its role as a private university in Catalonia.
The URL is a federation of eleven higher education and research institutions with a long tradition and great prestige in Catalonia, with the strategic addition of the Universities of Deusto (Basque Country) and Comillas (Madrid), as well as an international aggregation with American universities - Georgetown, Boston College and Fordham (USA), the Catholic University of Córdoba (Argentina) and Unisinos (Brazil) as part of the internationalisation of the campus of excellence project with outstanding and prestigious universities worldwide.
In addition, the URL prioritises an aggregate network of alumni with thousands of professionals from different knowledge areas who have trained in the lecture halls of these universities. The URL also has a network of institutions, companies and prestigious social organisations that help students to join the labour market.
Josep Maria Garrell, Rector of the URL, and Carlo Gallucci, the URL's Rector of International and Student Relations, set out the University's unique system of governance, which dates from its creation in 1991.
The Swiss University team also visited the ESADE-URL Campus at Sant Cugat and the one in Pedralbes and were received by Eugenia Bieto, General Manager of ESADE-URL; Josep Franch, Dean of the ESADE-URL School of Administration and Management; Jonathan Wareham, Dean of Faculty and Research; Tamyko Isa, Associate Dean for Research; and Antonia Maria Serra, Director of International Relations.
Finally, the delegation from Saint Gallen went to visit the Department of Universities and Research of the Catalan Government, where they were received by Antoni Castellà, Lluís Jofre and Claudi Alsina.
