ESDi-URL organizes the Intercolor congress in Barcelona

09.11.2022

Wednesday, November 9, 2022. From November 16 to 18, the Intercolor international color congress will be held in Barcelona, in which the color charts that will impact the design industry next autumn/winter 2024-25 season will be defined.

The Escuela Superior de Diseño ESDi-URL (affiliated center) will be in charge of organizing the congress, in addition to representing Spain with its proposal developed by The Create Lab (ESDi’s trends laboratory), directed by Dr. Encarna Ruiz. “Escape” is the project by The Create Lab that will present a chromatic proposal focused on “the moments of microhappiness that we seek to escape from the situation of social transition that we are experiencing, in which we are tense before the collapse from the energy crisis and war. We will try to make our colors represent this harsh reality”, says Encarna Ruiz.

Companies and institutions from 17 countries around the world meet at the Intercolor International Color Congress. It is held twice a year to establish future color and material trends that will later be shown at the main international textile fairs, such as Première Vision or Pitti Filati. The institutions that are part of Intercolor are associations and research institutes linked to the fashion, textile, color, art and design, or cosmetics industries. Each one represents one of the 17 member countries: China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Portugal, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey and the United States.

Dr. Encarna Ruiz, Director of The Create Lab (the trends laboratory of ESDi) points out that “Colour has a very important social and cultural component. For this reason, the purpose of the congress is to generate a cultural interconnection, an analysis of the social changes in each country or region, and knowledge of new materials and their applications”.

Thus, the program of the Intercolor congress begins with a day where the social concepts on which each member country has based itself to develop their chromatic proposal are presented. It starts next Wednesday, November 16 from 2:30 p.m. in the Auditorium of NTT Data, one of the sponsoring companies of the congress, together with ConceptD (also sponsor of The Create Lab), the Guild of Fabricants of SabadellKantarAxorHolistexTextile OliusKreab and Modacc.

In addition, the opening day of Intercolor will also feature two conferences by Marta Marín, strategic creative director and analyst of trends and markets for national and international brands, and Jorge Márquez, Head of Experience Design Europe at NTT Data. In the programming of the first day, the members of Intercolor and the sponsors will also be able to enjoy a workshop of new materials in Materfad, as well as a gastronomic experience inspired by color in Hidden Factory Barcelona.

The next two days (November 17 and 18) will be behind closed doors at the new headquarters of the EATM Fashion Arts and Techniques School (Barcelona). During these two days, the representative institutions will meet to show their color card proposals. In addition, they will unify them into a single one that will have an impact on the fields of fashion, interior design and product design in the coming seasons.

The presentation of the Intercolor manifesto will also take place at the Barcelona congress. In which its declaration of principles and purposes will be made public.
